Macedonia extends visa exemption privilege for Taiwan

The Republic of Macedonia on the Balkan Peninsula has agreed to extend its visa exemption treatment for Taiwan passport holders for one year, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Andrew Lee (李憲章) said Sunday.

The visa exemption arrangement was scheduled to end at midnight Sunday but a new agreement for an extension was reached a few days ago following negotiations that began earlier in the year, Lee said.

Based on the principles of reciprocity and equality, the foreign ministry is now in talks with Macedonia on offering the same privileges to that country's passport holders, Lee added.

Currently, Taiwanese nationals are allowed visa-free entry to 109 countries and areas, according to data from the Bureau of Consular Affairs.
