Number of passengers handled at Macedonia's airports hits historic high

A record-breaking number of passengers have been handled at the two airports in Macedonia, which comes as a result of the government's policies committed to improving air transportation in the country, says the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

From January to October 2017, a total of 1,731,098 passengers were handled at the Alexander the Great Airport in Skopje and Ohrid's St. Paul the Apostle Airport - an increase of 12.8% compared to the same period last year, when 1,534,591 had been registered.

Some 184,393 passengers used the services of the two Macedonian airports this October alone. Compared to October 2016 - when 151,877 passengers were handled, a rise of 21.4% is recorded, the Ministry says Thursday in a press release.

The most sought-after destination, according to the number of passengers, is Istanbul (12.4%), followed by Zurich (8.7%), Vienna (6.7%), Basel (5.2%) and Malmö (4.6%), states the press release.
