Ivanov-Bokova: Macedonia supports UNESCO’s programmes for protection of cultural and historical heritage

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov met Saturday in Amman with Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO and discussed current and future activities and projects of Macedonia in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Both interlocutors reaffirmed the excellent cooperation between Macedonia and UNESCO and expressed readiness for its expansion towards further realization of projects in the areas of culture, education, science, communications, information, as well as programmes for youth and civil society, President’s Cabinet said in a press release.

Ivanov said that Macedonia pays great importance to cooperation with UNESCO and actively promotes and participates in its activities and initiatives.

Macedonia supports programs of UNESCO and we are fully committed in efforts to protect our abundant natural and cultural heritage, Ivanov said, expressing gratitude for UNESCO’s continuous support to Macedonia through projects implemented within multilateral and direct cooperation.

They exchanged views on current political developments in Macedonia, information on the role of UNESCO in regard to the refugee crisis as well as the latest developments and reforms in this specialized UN agency. In this regard, Bokova informed Ivanov about the challenges that UNESCO is facing with.
